Coalfire Barbecue Bar
Two hand-built smokers and a Spanish style charcoal oven are the central features of the restaurant
OverviewHoused in Queenstown's historic Eureka Building, Coalfire is one of the newest restaurants on the town's dining scene. Once home to the Colonial Bank, the venue was home to Chicos, a popular bar, for more than 30 years but now it has been given a new lease of life as a cosy dining space serving tasty food flavoured by smoke and accompanied by a range of house sauces.
Two hand-built smokers and a Spanish style charcoal oven are the central features of the restaurant, with a menu featuring a range of items from bar snacks like smokey bacon and maple popcorn to lunch and dinner options like burgers, ribs and perfectly cooked steaks. Platters are available for sharing, making it a great venue for a meal with friends or family.
The food is cooked slowly in the smoker to infuse it with a fantastic flavour and make the meat as tender as possible.
Sweet treats to finish the meal include dark chocolate fondant with bourbon ice cream and home baked doughnuts. Coalfire also serves a breakfast menu including pancakes, eggs and spicy beans.
The wine list is extensive as is the craft beer selection and, in a nod to the venue's heritage, Chico's famous Brain Eraser cocktail has been reimagined as a milkshake.
Opening Hours: Monday to Sunday 8am to late.
