Eco Wanaka Guided Walks - Queenstown
The trek requires reasonable fitness and participants should wear comfortable shoes or boots and bring a small backpack with them.
One of the best ways to enjoy the Wanaka region is on foot, and the experienced guides of Eco Wanaka Adventures can help visitors get the most from their walks.
Their guided walks include the services of a guide, transport to and from the walks and lunch.
The Rob Roy Glacier track is a popular walk near Lake Wanaka with the steep track winding through forest and giving way to a view of the beautiful glacier.
The guided tour begins with a scenic drive around the shore of Lake Wanaka and then out though the valleys and through several fords along the track to Raspberry Hut, the starting point of the trek.
From there, visitors will take a walk along the banks of the Matukituki River, crossing by way of a swing bridge to enter Mount Aspiring National Park.
A steady climb through the rainforest, offers occasional glimpses of the glacier and the chance to see some native flora and fauna.
The walk takes around two hours, but climbers are rewarded with stunning views of the Roby Roy Glacier, including a 200-metre waterfall. Visitors can enjoy lunch in this picture perfect location, sometimes even seeing large chunks of snow and ice dropping further up the glacier. After lunch, there is the easier downhill return journey back to the car park.
Eco Wanaka Adventures also offers a guided trip to the top of Rocky Mountain near Diamond Lake or, for visitors who prefer an easier walk, there is the Outlet Walk that follows the banks of the Clutha River.
