Gibbston Valley Cave and Winery Tours - Queenstown
Gibbston Valley Winery also has a top class restaurant, offering indoor and al fresco dining, with stunning, international dishes served up against the beautiful backdrop of the vines, mountains and sunsets.
Fascinating and informative tours around New Zealand's largest wine cave, offering an insight into how wine is made here, plus the history of the region and tastings of the vineyard's latest releases.
Gibbston Valley Cave & Winery Tours is a must-do on the itinerary of any visitor to this beautiful wine region. Learn about the history of the region, and how the winery's Alan Brady became the first winemaker to develop a commercial wine from this soil, over twenty five years ago. There are two tours available, both giving you the chance to stand in the amazing wine cave, the country's largest, which was blasted out of thousands of tonnes of schist (gold rock), in order to create the perfect, natural environment in which to store and age Gibbston's famous wines. A constant temperature of between 12-14C ensures that Gibbston Valley's latest releases are matured to perfection, and you can see where this is done, first hand.
Starting in the beautiful and historic Gibbston Valley Vineyard, you'll take a walk through the vines and down to the wine cave, through its imposing set of wooden doors, where you'll be instantly transfixed by the sight of over 400 barrels of Pinot Noir lining the walls. It's an intoxicating feeling, in more ways than one, and your guide will then tell you a little about the functions of the cave, and give you a fascinating insight into this historic wine making region. Afterwards, you'll get down to the nitty gritty, and begin sampling the current releases from the winery. Often, guests on the wine tour are the very first to sample what the rest of the world is yet to experience!
Cave Tour Select
On this tour, you'll get all the delights of the standard cave tour, but with the additional thrill of being allowed into the wine cave's 'special alcove', where the very finest of Gibbston Valley Vineyard's releases are kept. Your guide will give you an in-depth talk on these high-end wines, so it's great for the real aficionados among you, who really know their stuff. Guests are encouraged to ask questions, and the discussion is always very relaxed - more so when the tasting begins! This is a unique tour that really spoils those after something a bit more substantial to add to their wine education.
The Gibbston Valley Winery Wine Cave can also be hired out for private functions and tastings, as well as for weddings (one of the most unique venues you'll find anywhere), and other special occasions. The wine tours also make the perfect gift for that someone special, a present they'll never have had before, and will never forget.
